Little Oaks’ Colourful Return

We are so proud of Little Oaks over the past couple of weeks. They have settled into school brilliantly! They have all come to school smiley, energetic and enthusiastic to explore their new indoor and outdoor environment.

In Literacy, we have been reading the story ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas. This story helps children to identify and understand their feelings and emotions. In the story, each emotion is represented by a certain colour. We have discussed when we have felt those emotions and how it made us feel. We have discussed feelings of sadness and anger and talked about de-escalation strategies we can use to help us feel calm.

In maths, we have been learning to match objects that are the same. This includes matching objects of the same colour, shape, size and number. The children have loved playing the game ‘snap’ in continuous provision. It has helped the children look closely at the playing cards to find the same number, colour or object on the front of the cards.
