Let’s Count Competition 2021

As you know, Aston Lodge took part in the Let’s Count! Day competition last month. There were 5 simple steps for primary schools to take part:

1. Choose your Let’s Count! day.

2. Decide what the children will count. The theme for the competition was ‘This Matters to Us.’. Each class chose what they would like to count. Here is what each class chose:
Little Oaks (Foundation) conducted a survey to find out which school dinners are enjoyed the most by the members of their class.
Ash (Y1/2) were interested in finding more out about the members of their class such as their favourite movies, colours and animals!
Beech (Y2/3) counted the variety of different wildlife seen within our school grounds.
Hazel (Y3/4) were interested in finding more out about the members of their class such as their favourite foods, subjects and pets!
Holly (Y5) were interested in the natural world. They counted the variety of different plant species found growing within our school grounds.
Sycamore (Y6) were interested in how our school can support the environment. They conducted a class survey on how everyone in Sycamore class travels to school.

3. Collect the data.

4. Create a wall display. With the information gathered from the counting, children then developed a colourful census wall display including charts, graphs and pictures.

To enter the competition, we uploaded our main wall display photograph, plus up to two supporting images and a 150-word description of the counting that took place. Attached is a photograph fabulous display.

We will keep you updated on whether we are successful with the competition. Either way, the children are winners as all the children had a fabulous experience learning about the importance of maths in our every day life along with the importance of collecting data for the Census.

Well done children. We are proud of you all!
