Ash Class Update!
Wow! What an amazing week.
In Maths, we have begun our unit on Multiplication and Division. We started by recapping our counting in 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s to help us count in groups! The children have blown me away with their skills in counting, some children even being able to count backward from 100 in 5’s and 10’s! We also began looking at making equal groups and what this means.
In English, we have been reading Floss and learning about settings. We have been thinking about what we can do in our own writing to describe the setting in as much detail as possible. We have been practicing writing our own expanded noun phrases about the setting. The children came up with some fabulous ideas and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next week when they write their own!
In Science, our Enchanted Woodland work has really taken off this week! Last week we planted our very own bean plant and we were shocked to see how tall they have grown. We have been observing the changes and filling in our plant diary to see how fast it is growing. We also learned about the different parts of a tree, including the two different types – evergreen and deciduous. We went on a tree hunt around the school grounds to identify all the different types of trees that live here! We learned the names of lots of trees that are native to the UK.
We used this learning to help us in Geography. We used the Forestry England website to locate woodlands and forests all over the UK! One forest we were particularly interested in was Sherwood Forest. Children used their Chromebooks to research facts about this famous forest, and were very shocked to learn that The Major Oak was over 900 years old! The children identified different trees that live in Sherwood forest, such as oak trees.
In Computing, we have been learning how to programme a Bee-Bot. The children had a go at programming the Bee-Bot to move in different shapes, such as a square. We then created our very own obstacle course for our beebot, and programmed the beebot to miss the obstacles as a class! We had lots of fun in the sunshine.
Well done again Ash class!
A super big well done to our PRIDE award winner this week also – Leila!
