Little Oaks Hatchlings 🐣
A few weeks ago the children found a bird’s nest in the outdoor literacy lab, since then we have been keeping a close eye on the nest and the mother bird.
We found a few days later that she had laid 3 eggs, the children and staff have really enjoyed watching the eggs hatch, the baby birds being born, and how they grew, which was very quickly in just a few days.
Inside our unit, we took part in lots of child-led learning after finding the nest. We have made chocolate nests, craft nests, bird masks, and learned about the life cycle of a bird.
The birds have now flown the nests and the children have been able to take a closer inspection of how the nest was made. She was one clever bird.
