Little Oak Transition Week

Little Oaks have had a fantastic transition week into Ash class this week. We have learned all about each other, from our favourite subject in school to our pets names! Miss Cotterill was really impressed that so many children said that they enjoyed phonics and she can’t wait to teach them in September.

On Tuesday, we took part in some sports activities with Mr Speakman. The children worked as part of a team to complete an obstacle course. The children really rose to the challenge and had a fabulous time!

We then decided to get stuck into some artwork over transition week. We learned how to use powder paint, how to make powder paint, what consistency is best, and we learned all about colour mixing. We did lots of experimenting and really enjoyed getting a feel for using powder paint. The children followed the instructions of an adult really well and worked as a whole class to create their own colour wheel.

We then learned about a famous artist called Henry Matisse. We learned all about his method of ‘painting with scissors’ and decided to recreate our own artwork inspired by Henry Matisse. We used our fine motor skills to cut out a shape and use it as a template. We then picked and mixed our own colour to paint around the template. As you can see, the children were really careful with their cutting and painting!
