Weekly Round Up – Y6

Last week, the children have been writing their poems based on WW2 evacuation. In maths, we have been looking at mental strategies and in reading, we have focused on character perceptions based on information the book has told us already.

In wider curriculum, we participated in an African Drumming workshop. This is something they really enjoyed and it was nice to see them enjoying a completely new experience. In geography, our topic is European Cities. We have done a lot of work on migration in Y6 geography and we have been learning how economic migration is different to seeking refuge. In music, the children are practicing their singing skills using the MADTSHIRT acronym. In history, the children LOVED learning about Anne Frank this week and we ordered the significant events in her life on a timeline.

Our spelling rule for this week is words that contain the ‘oy’ sound (oy, oi):
Soil
Point
Loyal
Oyster
Join
Spoilt
Flamboyant
Poison
Disappoint
Joyful

Here are some questions to ask your children this week:
What does MADTSHIRT stand for?
What is migration? What is a refugee?
What did you think Zach looked like in Goodnight Mr Tom and why?
What do you know about Anne Frank?
