FS2 / Year 1
Welcome to FS2/Year 1!
Teacher – Miss Cotterill
Play is vital, as it is through play that young children learn and grow. It helps them to understand the world around them as well as helping them to develop socially and emotionally.
In school, we use the Foundation Stage Profile to observe and assess the children. We spend time working with the children in adult-led focus groups but allow time for child-initiated activities. This helps us to make sure the activities and play that we offer is tailored to their needs and interests and allows them to learn at their own pace, have fun, make friends and learn as they play to reach their full potential.
We are a strong team and we pride ourselves in providing a warm and caring environment where children feel happy, safe and secure and confident to explore learn and have fun!
We have developed strong links with our families and encourage parents to use class dojo to share their child’s learning at home. The children are awarded PRIDE points when they demonstrate areas of PRIDE following our school ethos. This is shared with parents and one child per week is chosen to take home Percy Pride the Lion to spend time with the children at home. The children love to share their stories in the diary when they return!
A weekly newsletter is sent home every Monday to keep parents informed of what we are doing that week in class. Parents are also sent a copy of the topic overview for the half term. This helps parents to understand what the children will be learning in school so parents can make links at home and also how parents can support their child’s learning at home. We have an open door policy and believe that good home-school communication will help the children to achieve their full potential.
We look forward to working with you.
