Year 2/3

Welcome to Year 2/3!

Teacher – Miss Hamilton

PE TIMES

We will have two sessions of PE per week. Our sessions will take place on a Monday and Wednesday. All children must have the appropriate PE kit in school. This must contain a white tshirt, dark shorts and trainers or pumps for indoor sessions. For outdoor sessions children must have suitable clothing, such as a jumper and tracksuit bottoms. No jewellery can be worn during these sessions and earrings must be removed. If your child is unable to take part, please speak to me directly.

HOMEWORK

Homework will consist of learning weekly spellings, reading, times tables pratise and homework sent home on a weekly basis. A piece of Maths, Reading or Writing will be sent home each week for your child to complete. Any topic homework that your child wishes to complete would also be welcomed but is completely optional.  Ideas for this can be found on the class page.

READING HOMEWORK

Reading is incredibly important and your child is encouraged to read at home. Fluency and speed are important when reading but a having a good understanding of the text is also critical. It is expected that your child will read 3 times per week at home. This can be done independently or with an adult but must be recorded in their homework diary. Any reading comprehensions sent home will count towards their weekly reading.

SPELLING

A spelling list will be sent home with the half term’s spellings. Each Friday your child will be tested on the appropriate weeks’ spellings. Children should know how to read and say aloud these spellings as well as having a good understanding of what they mean. They should also be able to use these words confidently in a sentence in the correct context. At the top of each spelling list, it will note the spelling rule that we are following that week. Children should take notice to this as two mystery words following that spelling rule will also be included in their spelling test.

Family Workshops/Assemblies this term:

Later this term there will be an opportunity for you to come in and work with your children to create their own woolly mammoth. Further details including a date will be released closer to the time.

School trips this term:

As part of our topic, we are organising a school trip for the children to attend. As soon as any further details are available a letter will be sent out.

As always, I will be available before school or after 3pm if you have any queries or concerns. Alternatively, I am always available via Class Dojo and endeavour to reply to these messages as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your continuing support as always.
