Welcome to Beech class!
Welcome, I am Miss Hamilton and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Marsh. We hope to encourage our class how to ‘Show Pride and Reach for the stars!’.
We believe you can achieve anything and nothing is out of reach for our class.
Meet your Teachers
Hi, I’m Miss Hamilton and I am your Class Teacher!
I grew up in Manchester, but I’ve lived in Sheffield for the last 7 years after I came here for university and never left.
In my spare time, I like to relax by playing the guitar. I also enjoy baking and cooking different things from around the world. If I have any spare time left, I love to read and get stuck into a good book! I can’t wait to see you all in September!
Hello! My name is Mrs Marsh and I am your Teaching Assistant.
I’m looking forward to working with you all again. I love reading, gardening and arts and crafts, my favourite colour is green and I love chocolate.
Beech Class will have two sessions of PE– one on Monday and the other Thursday.
Please ensure your child has their indoor kit, consisting of dark shorts and a white t-shirt plus their outdoor kit – trainers and track suit when the weather gets colder, as we try to have PE lessons outside as long as weather permits.
Children with pierced ears will need to be able to take out their own earrings, or alternately not come in earrings on P.E. days. Long hair will need to be tied back with a bobble. PE kit needs bringing to school on a Monday and left in school until Friday as occasionally PE times have to be changed.
Reading is incredibly important and your child is encouraged to read at home. Fluency and speed are important when reading but having a good understanding of the text is also critical.
It is expected that your child will read three times per week at home. This can be done independently or with an adult but must be recorded in their homework diary. Any reading comprehensions sent home will count towards their weekly reading.
We use the interactive Class Dojo app to share learning experiences, photographs of learning, messages and information about the curriculum with parents and carers each week.
Our New Learning
In Maths, we follow the White Rose Maths Scheme. For Reading and Writing, we continue to use Success For All. As our class is a mixed Year 2 and 3 class, objectives will be taken from each year group to form a progressive curriculum. With this in mind, we have created topics that will successfully meet these objectives.
Our Autumn term topic will be ‘The Romans’. We will explore the Roman history and compare their lives to ours.
Our Spring term topic will be ‘The local history of Aston’. In this topic, we will learn about the past of Aston, including the mining that took place around the city of Sheffield and how this has shaped our lives today!
Finally, our Summer term topic will be Caves, Coves and Cliffs. This topic will consist of us comparing our local coastlines to the Polar Regions. We will also investigate sustainability and the impact of humans on our environment.
