The National Curriculum for Physical Education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • Are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities
  • Lead healthy, active lives

PE at Aston Lodge is extremely important. We are always encouraging children to live a healthy and active lifestyle. All children in Year 1-6 receive 2 hours of PE a week. Our school is lucky enough to be of Wickersley Partnership Trust which helps organise and run various sporting events, in addition to supporting teachers and other staff with the planning and delivery of PE lessons and clubs in school; Mr Walker (PE teacher from WPT) currently works in our school each Tuesday and Thursday. We are also lucky enough to have Rotherham United sports coaches working across different year groups in our school. Children from both Key Stages 1 and 2 also attend different sporting events and competitions in our local community – Aston. Take a look at the posts on our homepage for some of our childrens’ fantastic achievements so far!

Children from Year 4 currently have swimming lessons once a week for a full term. Sports Premium is not used to fund this activity. Children currently have their lessons at the Aston Leisure Centre and are taught to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres. We are currently exploring the possibility of assigning some of our Sports Premium money to extend this to offer Year 2 swimming lessons.

As well as delivering 2 hours of physical education a week, we also offer a range of sporting clubs every term. Some clubs are run by outside sport coaches and other clubs are run by the staff themselves, and they are always looking for new children to join!
