As part of their topic on the Mayan civilisation, Year 4 and 5 visited York Chocolate Story to discover the fascinating history of the Mayans and their connection to chocolate. The children learnt about how chocolate was first enjoyed by the Mayans and even had the opportunity to make a traditional Mayan chocolate drink called xocolatl, meaning ‘bitter water’!
Of course, the visit wouldn’t have been complete without tasting plenty of modern-day chocolate too! It was a fun, interactive trip that brought the children’s learning to life and gave them a delicious insight into the history of chocolate.
