Welcome
to Year 1

Mrs Pirie
Meet your teacher
Hi I’m Mrs Pirie and I will be your class teacher this year. This will be my fourth year at Aston Lodge and I am really looking forward to being part of your journey next year. I love to read in my spare time and I can’t wait to share with you some of my favourite authors and stories that I read as a child. I cannot wait to see you all in September! Our PE days are Thursday and Friday.
Meet your Teaching Assistants

Miss Dawson
My name is Miss Dawson, and I will be your teaching assistant this year. This will be coming up to my second year at Aston Lodge and I am looking forward to being a part of your learning journey.
Class Information
Phonics is taught daily using ‘Read, Write, Inc’ scheme. As part of phonics your child will learn a new sound each day, develop early reading skills to enable them to become confident, fluent readers. You will have a phonics book that matches your reading level that you can take home and read. We aim to do at least 3 reads per week to prepare for the phonics screening which will take place in June. We use ClassDojo to keep in touch with you and to give you key updates. Our Dojo quiet hours are between 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday and all weekend. This means that if you message during these times, we will not respond. You will receive an invitation to your child’s Class Dojo in September, where you will be able to interact with your child’s teacher and see what they are doing in class.
Our Learning
In our learning, we will be starting some super topics like: Our local area, the Victorians and looking at the artwork or Claude Monet.
