This week in FS2, the children have been learning about very cold places in the world, focusing on the Arctic and the Antarctic. We explored where these places are on the map and learned that, although both are icy and cold, different animals live in each one.
The children were fascinated to discover that polar bears live in the Arctic while penguins live in the Antarctic! They also talked about how animals are adapted to cold environments, including how fur, feathers and colour help them stay warm or camouflage in the snow.
The children then created their own polar bears and penguins using a range of craft materials, showing great creativity and care. Many were able to confidently explain their designs using new vocabulary they had learned.
To finish the week, the children enjoyed decorating their own polar bear cupcakes as a special treat to celebrate all their hard work and fantastic learning.
