Baking Currant Buns in FS1

This week, the children have been focusing on the nursery rhyme ‘Five Currant Buns in a Baker’s Shop’. They have loved learning the Makaton signs to accompany the rhyme and using their fine motor skills to design and decorate their own pretend buns.

To finish off the week, the children had the exciting opportunity to bake real currant buns in small groups! They listened carefully to instructions, and took turns pouring, mixing, and stirring the ingredients. Once their buns were baked, the children decorated them with icing and a bright cherry on top – just like in the song!

It was a wonderful hands-on experience that brought the rhyme to life, helping the children to practise their listening, turn-taking, and coordination skills while having lots of fun.
